Elmira, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's soccer team hosted SUNY Brockport on Wednesday afternoon at Campus Field for another Empire 8 showdown. After battling to the wire and holding the Golden Eagles to just one goal, the Soaring Eagles just missed the mark and fell 1-0.
LEADERS
Brooke Wilcox led offensively with three shots, including two on target, while
Bella Thomas added four shots with one on frame.
Isabella Reuter recorded two shots, while
Amy Ferrier and
Kylie Drake each registered a shot on goal. In goal,
Sarah Cantrell made eight saves to keep the Soaring Eagles within striking distance.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Brockport grabbed an early 1-0 lead at the 5:53 mark and continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half. Cantrell kept the Soaring Eagles within one with four saves before halftime. Elmira began to generate opportunities of its own as the half progressed, with Ferrier testing the Brockport goalkeeper at 22:14 before Toher and
Dani Cruz each recorded shots late in the period. The Soaring Eagles also earned three corner kicks during the opening 45 minutes but trailed 1-0 heading into the half.
Elmira came out aggressively in the second half, with Wilcox, Thomas, and Reuter each putting shots on target within the first seven minutes. Reuter added another attempt at 55:30 before Ferrier and Thomas continued to create opportunities as the Soaring Eagles looked for the equalizer. Elmira finished with 11 shots in the second half and earned another corner kick, while Cantrell added four additional saves. Wilcox put another shot on frame at 75:16, and Drake tested the goalkeeper at 72:08, but the Soaring Eagles were unable to find the equalizer as Brockport held on for the 1-0 victory.

Soaring Eagles return to Campus Field on Saturday, October 10, when they host SUNY Polytechnic Institute for another E8 matchup. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
