Soaring Eagles Fall in Series Finale Against SUNY Polytechnic Institute

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Elmira College baseball team hosted the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute for a conference matchup at the Holding Point Recreation Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles battled but fell in this one 16-5.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Wildcats struck first in this one, putting two runs on the board in the first inning. Kaden Bolt singled to get Elmira started in the bottom of the inning. Connor Stone walked a few batters later, but the Soaring Eagles were unable to push any runs across in the inning. Sean Deaner and CJ Wheaton got the second inning started with two consecutive singles to get some momentum for Elmira. The momentum would be halted though as Elmira could not advance either of the runners. The Wildcats added three more runs in the third inning extending the advantage to 5-0. Brady Buttice singled to center field with one out in the third and it was followed by a walk to Stone, putting two runners on. Two batters later, Deaner singled to left field to bring Buttice across to score and get Elmira on the board. Wheaton continued the inning with a single of his own, bringing Stone into score and cutting the deficit to 5-2. Bolt walked to get things going in the bottom of the fourth. Buttice got hit by a pitch and Stone singled again to load up the bases with Soaring Eagles. An infield single by Xander Canfield drove Bolt into score the third run of the contest for EC. The Wildcats responded with seven runs in the fifth inning to put themselves in front 12-3. 
 
Brenden McGar walked with one out in the fifth inning to get things going again for Elmira. Michael Currao reached on an error as momentum continued for the Soaring Eagles. Bolt followed up with a single through the right side, driving McGar into score and making the score 12-4. After the runners moved up on a pass ball, an RBI groundout by Alex Dinicola brought Currao into score and cut the deficit to 12-5. SUNY Polytechnic responded with another run in the sixth inning to move in front 13-5. Elmira got a couple more base runners in the sixth but could not push any runs across. The Wildcats added three more runs in the seventh to move in front by 11. The Wildcats closed out the contest, the Soaring Eagles falling in this one 16-5. 
 
LEADERS
Offensively, Wheaton led the way, going 2-4 at the plate, and picking up an RBI. Bolt went 2-4 at the plate with a stolen base and a run scored. Deaner collected two hits in four at-bats and notched an RBI. 

UP NEXT
The Soaring Eagles are back in action on Tuesday April 21st as they host the Saxons of Alfred University for a conference matchup at the Holding Point Recreation Center. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
