GENESEO, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles traveled to face the Knights in an end of week Empire 8 showdown. EC was seen dropping game one 7-0 while just missing the mark in game two, 11-5.
GAME ONE: EC FALLS SHORT TO GENESEO
In game one, both teams held an even playing field until the Knights struck first in the bottom of the third. Geneseo utilized two hits to score one run and take the 1-0 advantage. In the bottom of the fourth, Geneseo added to their lead with a two-run blast.
The Knights continued to tack onto their lead with one run in the bottom of the fifth along with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Soaring Eagles were unable to kickstart their offense, leaving them to fall short 7-0.
LEADERS
Jocelyn Jean and
Ashlyn VanFleet recorded one walk apiece.
Savannah Persun recorded three strikeouts over five innings.
GAME TWO: SOARING EAGLES MISS THE MARK AGAINST THE KNIGHTS
In game two, EC took an early lead kickstarted by a
Sophia Polzella single to right. A sacrifice bunt from
Kendall Curreri placed Polzella in scoring position with Jean ripping a RBI single up the middle (1-0). The Knights quickly retaliated with three runs of their own to recapture the 3-1 lead over EC. The bottom of the second saw Geneseo jump ahead with another four runs on four hits to elevate them to a 7-1 lead.
The top of the third was sparked by a
Brooke Eastman walk paired with a
Hannah Colwill single to center. With two runners on, Polzella blasted a three-run shot to cut the deficit to 7-4. The top of the fourth saw Elmira back for more, opening with Eastman and Colwill walks. Polzella tacks on her fourth RBI with a single to left, cutting the deficit once more to two (7-5). Geneseo worked quickly, adding to their lead with a RBI double to push to 8-5. Both teams were evenly matched until the bottom of the sixth, seeing the Knights tack on three more runs to leave EC to fall 11-5.
LEADERS
Offensively, Polzella led the charge going 3-4 at the plate with four RBI's and two runs. Jean and Colwill recorded one hit apiece.

The Soaring Eagles remain on the road and travel to Alfred, New York to face E8 foe Alfred University tomorrow Friday, April 24. Games are slated for 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
