Flag Football Battles Against Brockport

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira College flag football team hosted SUNY Brockport for an Empire 8 contest at Campus Field this afternoon. The Soaring Eagles fought with grit but missed the mark 31-6.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles opened the game on offense, running three plays before Faith Ingber punted for 37 yards to the Brockport 28. In their first drive of the game, the Golden Eagles mustered their first goal and failed a 1-point PAT attempt. In their Soaring Eagles second drive and attempt to even the score, they ran 15 plays. Kylie Hook rushed for eight-yards followed by Nyla Capen with 20-yards. EC got within four yards of the goal line but were unable to even the playing field. With Brockport back on offense, the Elmira defense worked hard to hold them at 6. A sack from Ingber sent both teams into the second quarter with Elmira trailing, 6-0. EC returned to offense but an interception from the Golden Eagles saw them push ahead 12-0.

In back-to-back drives, Brockport was able to garner a 19-0 advantage over Elmira. Before the half, the Soaring Eagles saw Capen rush for nine-yards followed by an Ingber six-yard rush. Elmira ended up turning the ball over on downs, forcing Brockport to work quickly before the break. Elmira's defense continued to preserve at the start of the third quarter, forcing the Golden Eagles to punt the ball. EC looked to push their momentum into the offensive side of the field but was unable to get bast the Brockport 20. Brockport held possession for a long drive to secure a 25-0 lead.

Both teams were back-and-forth through the remained of the third quarter, seeing Elmira force the Golden Eagles to punt at the start of the fourth. Elmira worked for two straight minutes to get the ball up field. Capen was seen rushing on four different plays during the drive, along with Kylie Hook rushing twice. A turnover on downs saw the Golden Eagles start close to the midfield line on their own 36. Brockport once against was able to add to their lead, making the score 31-0. In EC's second to last drive of the game, Capen connected with Ingber for a gain of five on three different occasions. EC was able to hit the board with an Ingber 10-yard touchdown but was ultimately not enough as Elmira fell short, 33-6. 

LEADERS
Capen threw for 151 yards for one touchdown AND 1 completion. Smith marked a game-long of 36-yards. Hook led with 85 receiving yards followed by Ingber with 40 receiving yards
 
The Soaring Eagles hit the road to Russell Sage for another E8 series. Game time is set for 4:00 PM on Saturday, Aprill 11th.
