ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College softball team traveled to SUNY Brockport to face the Golden Eagles in the first round of the Empire 8 Championship, where the Soaring Eagles fell, 11–3.

The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start, retiring the top of Elmira's order to open the game before scoring a pair of runs to take an early 2–0 lead. The Soaring Eagles responded in the top of the second, as Teona Cruz hit a solo home run to left field. However, SUNY Brockport's offense stayed hot, adding two more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to three.
Brockport added two runs in the third inning before putting up three more in the fourth to take a commanding 9–1 lead into the fifth. Hannah Colwill blasted a two-run home run to left field to help Elmira cut the deficit to six, but the Golden Eagles answered with two more runs to secure the 11–3 victory.

Hannah Colwill hit a two-run home run, while Teona Cruz added a solo shot. Jocelyn Jean and Kristen Cole each recorded a hit.
