Scranton, Pa. – The Elmira Women's Volleyball team traveled to Marywood University to open its 2026 season. The Soaring Eagles battled through three tough sets and fell short to the Pacers, 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-14).
Leaders - Leading the way for the Soaring Eagles was
Ellora Bynoe, who recorded six kills on the night.
Morgan Sica,
Gabby Lewis and
Averleigh McFarlan each added two of their own, while
Vicki Titus tallied seven digs.
Play-by-play - Bynoe wasted no time making an impact in the 2026 season, recording the first kill of the year on the second play of set one to even the score at 1-1. The Pacers quickly took control, tacking on five straight points (6-3) before Bynoe gave Elmira their second point of the set. Marywood continued to attack aggressively, allowing the Soaring Eagles to add just 12 more points on the board. One of those points came from a McFarlan kill before set one went to the Pacers, 25-14. Bynoe finished the opening set with four kills, while Sica added two of her own.
Set two opened with a pair of Marywood kills before an Elmira point made it 2-1. The Pacers then put together a five-point run to build a six-point advantage. The Soaring Eagles battled back, cutting the deficit to four after a kill from
Aimee Bridges (9-5). Freshman Lewis added another highlight to the set recording her first collegiate kill, but Marywood regained control and took set two 25-11.
Heading into set three, Elmira looked to come out strong seeing Lewis set the tone with her second kill of the night. Two consecutive Pacer errors followed, building the Soaring Eagles lead to 3-1. The lead was short-lived as the Pacers responded with six points of their own. Elmira continued to battle but was unable to make the recovery as Marywood finished off set three, 25-14, for the 3-0 victory.
