Morrisville, N.Y. – The Elmira College field hockey team traveled to SUNY Morrisville for their first road contest of the season. EC fought with grit but fell short 9-1.

In the cage, Elara Rodriguez recorded nine saves for the Soaring Eagles. Offensively, Riley Dutcher led Elmira with five shots, including two on goal and the team's lone goal of the afternoon. Madison Fleming added three shots with one on goal, while Peyton DeMaio recorded one shot and on goal. Elmira earned six penalty corners.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Elmira created several opportunities early, earning four penalty corners in the opening quarter and putting two shots on goal. Morrisville ultimately took a 2-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes, while Elara Rodriguez made two saves to keep the Soaring Eagles within striking distance.
The Mustangs added one goal in the second quarter to take a 3-0 advantage into halftime. Rodriguez continued to battle in the cage, making three saves during the period, while Elmira continued to work to generate offensive opportunities.
Morrisville added two goals in the third quarter before extending its advantage early in the fourth. Despite the deficit, Elmira continued to compete and was rewarded late when Riley Dutcher found the back of the cage in the 57th minute. The goal marked Dutcher's second of the season and gave the Soaring Eagles their first goal of the afternoon. In the fourth quarter, Elmira generated five shots and earned two penalty corners, finishing the afternoon with 11 shots and four shots on goal.

Elmira remains on the road as they travel to Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 9. The contest is slated for 6 PM.
