Elmira, N.Y. – Elmira College Athletics is excited partner with Pietro & Son's to name the first pair of Soaring Eagle Athletes of the Week for the 2026-27 season. Freshman Averleigh McFarlan and senior Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia pick up the honor for the first time this season.

Women's Volleyball, Averleigh McFarlan
In her collegiate debut and first week of competitions, McFarlan started in three of four matches for the Soaring Eagles. She competed in all four matches, recording 13 sets played. She recorded 34.5 points for an average of 2.65 points per set. She tallied 29 kills, 2 assists, 7 digs, and 5 service aces.

Men's Soccer, Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia
In his first two matches of the season, Gandia played his part between the posts. He started and played all 180 minutes. Gandia was seen recording 19 saves on 47 shots faced during just the first two matches this season.
