2018-19 Season
Made two appearances in goal for the Soaring Eagles as a senior...Amassed 45 saves and posted a .915 save percentage in 109:25 of ice time...Picked up a victory over King's (Pa.) (1/18) by making 18 saves and only allowing one goal in an 11-1 UCHC triumph...Got the start against Chatham on Class of 2019 Recognition Day and posted 25 saves.

2017-18 Season
Earned his first collegiate victory in a start against King’s (Pa.) on November 4 at the MAC...Limited the Monarchs to four goals by making 21 saves in a 7-4 conference victory.

2016-17 Season
Started four times in net for the Soaring Eagles…Made a career-high 131 saves on the year...Stopped 40 shots in a bout against nationally-ranked Hobart (2/18)...Recorded a career-high 43 saves and a season-best .935 save percentage in the team’s season finale against nationally-ranked Hobart (2/19).

2015-16 Season
Made one appearance between the pipes as a freshman…Recorded 38 saves and an .884 save percentage in a 5-2 loss to ECAC West foe Hobart in the regular-season finale.

International
Has represented South Africa in International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Games on numerous occasions...Thrice named the best goalkeeper at the World Championships...Won the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship for Division III Group B with South Africa...In April of 2016 following his freshman season, Charl helped South Africa win bronze at the 2016 IIHF Division III World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey...Most recently earned the Best Goalie Award at the 2018 IIHF Division III World Championships, which were hosted in his native South Africa.

Before Elmira
Played ice hockey for the U18 Huskies of the Northwood School in Lake Placid, New York, alongside EC teammate Patrick Schmelzinger ’20...Named a 2014-15 Eastern Junior Elite Prospect League U18 All-Star and All-Star Game MVP...Lettered in three sports at Northwood, also playing soccer and golf.

Personal
Charl is a Biology major with a Pre-Med concentration. He is also a four-year member of the EC men’s golf team.
