Gillian Gravel ’14 is in her second season at Elmira College as the assistant softball coach in the spring of 2016.

Gravel, a 2014 graduate of Elmira College, joins the staff of a team she knows quite well, having spent the last three seasons behind the plate for the Purple and Gold after transferring to EC from Saint Anselm College. Gravel played in 69 games during her Elmira career, including 60 starts as the Soaring Eagle backstop, becoming one of the best defensive catchers Elmira has ever seen in that time. At the conclusion of the 2014 season, Gravel became EC’s career leader in fielding percentage with a .983, committing just seven errors in over 400 fielding attempts. She also threw out 24.5 percent of all would-be base-stealers.

Over her three-year career at EC, Gravel held down a pitching staff that improved each season with her behind the plate and posted a win-loss record of 50-44. The team earned run average dropped from a 5.19 in 2012, Gravel’s first year at Elmira, to a 1.53 in 2014, which ranked second all-time for season ERA, falling just short of the 1.52 ERA posted in 1991. Additionally, the Soaring Eagles made the postseason in 2013 and 2014, including their first appearance in the Empire 8 Championships since 2005.

Gravel is pursuing a Master’s Degree in General Education at Elmira College.
