Men’s Soccer Rolls in 6-1 Victory Over Hilbert

Elmira, NY – The Men's Soccer team earned their ninth win of the 2010 season as they rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Hawks of Hilbert College. The Soaring Eagles dominated in every aspect of the contest as they out-shot the Hawks 25 to 7.

Erik Lee '13 (Suffield, CT -- Suffield) got things started for Elmira as he scored five minutes into the game on a one touch volley. Lee's blast came on a pass from first year talent Scott Leone '14 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford). Less than two minutes later Ernesto Valverde '14 (East Hampton, NY -- East Hampton) would bury a shot into the lower left corner on a Leone pass. With a 2-0 lead EC would give up a quick goal to the Hawks, bringing the score to 2-1.

With a one goal game on their hands the Soaring Eagles would run off three more first half goals. Leone would register EC's third goal of the contest as he would follow up his own shot for an easy score. Three minutes after the Leone goal, Lee would notch his second goal of the contest off one of his own rebounded shots. With a 4-1 advantage Jackson Correia '14 (West Simsbury, CT -- Masters School) would find the back of the net with a perfectly placed header on a Michael Dewitt '11 (Queensbury, NY -- Queensbury) cross. Elmira would enter the second half with a 5-1 lead.

In the second half Elmira would work the ball and maintain possession. Brooks Saunders '11 (Key West, FL -- Key West) would score his first goal of the 2010 season as he would beat several defenders before beating the keeper for the score. Elmira would go on to take the contest 6-1. Goalies Alston Eldridge '12 (Sharon, CT -- Kent School) and Alex Todd '13 (Elmira, NY -- Notre Dame) combined for three saves.

Elmira will look to ride this momentum into this weekend's contest against number five nationally ranked Ducks of Stevens Tech. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at De Baun Field in Hoboken, NJ.
