Field Hockey Comes Up Short against Bombers

Pine Valley, NYEC Field Hockey dropped a hard fought game today against the Bombers of Ithaca College.  Despite an early goal the Soaring Eagles settled-in to make the gave very competitive.  Ithaca out-shot Elmira 20-14 and recorded 14 penalty corners to Elmira's 10. 

Ithaca wasted no time as they scored the game's opening goal just 1:25 into the contest.  EC would have their opportunities in the half, unleashing 10 shots on the Ithaca keeper.  The Bombers would hold on to the 1-0 lead entering the half. 

The second half would be tightly contested as each team would find quality scoring opportunities.  Elmira would have several chances in front of the net but failed to convert on any of their opportunities.  At the 54:21 mark, first year player Erin Rupell '11 (Lehighton, PA -- Lehighton) made a phenomenal defensive save on a high ball that was surely making its way in to goal.  Her save kept the contest in reach as it stayed at 1-0. 

At the 63:25 mark Ithaca would seal the win with a goal of a rebounded shot.  The goal would put the Bombers up for good as they would take the contest 2-0.  Elmira goalie Riannon Crocker '14 (Nashua, NH -- Nashua) played a solid game for the Soaring Eagles, making 14 saves in 70 minutes of action.  Elmira Field Hockey will return to action on Thursday, October 21st as they host the Knights of SUNY Geneseo at 4:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletics Center in Pine Valley, NY.
