Elmira, NY -- The Soaring Eagles Men's Soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College this afternoon. With the loss Elmira drops to 4-2 in the Empire 8 Conference while Nazareth improves to 5-1-0, bolstering them to first place in the E8.
In the first half both teams failed to find the back of the net. Solid defense by the Soaring Eagles in the first kept the game 0-0 as Nazareth was relentless in their attack. The Golden Flyers out-shot Elmira 13-3 in the half, putting 6 of their 13 on frame. Despite only three shots, Elmira had a golden opportunity late in the half as third year player
Jason Guernsey '12 (Cherry Valley, NY -- Cherry Valley) received a through-ball pass at the 18. He received the pass, took one dribble and blasted a shot nearly missing the right corner. The score would remain 0-0 going into halftime.
The Golden Flyers would strike early in the second half giving them a 1-0 lead. The goal would come on a rebounded shot just 1:18 into the half. With the lead and looking for more, Nazareth would find the net again on a perfectly placed pass in front of the net for a score. EC would fail to convert on several scoring chances as they fell by the final count, 2-0.

Alex Todd '13 (Elmira, NY -- Notre Dame) made 11 saves in 90 minutes of action. EC will look to rebound from today's loss as they host the Bombers of Ithaca College on Saturday, October 30th at 3:00 p.m. This crucial Empire 8 battle will mark the final home contest of the 2010 season.
