Thannhauser Sinks 25 as Elmira Edges Clarkson

Potsdam, NY EC Women's Basketball earned their second win of the season as they defeated the Golden Knights of Clarkson University 56-52.  EC trailed in the first half but a strong second half effort led Elmira to a victory.

In the first half Elmira would trail by as many as eight points and would never hold a lead.  EC's Maria Thannhauser '14 (Newfield, NY -- Newfield) kept Elmira in the contest with her 12 first half points.  Fellow classmate Jessica Zoltowski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) added another 6, combining for 18 of Elmira's 23 first half points.

The second half would be all Elmira as they would outscore Clarkson 33-24 in the second half.  The Soaring Eagles would be led again by Thannhauser as she added 13 second half points giving her 25 for the contest.  Elmira's fourth year players would come to life in the second as Becky Peterman '11 (Glen Gardner, NJ -- Voorhees) and Becca Fretz '11 (Kunkletown, PA -- Pleasant Valley) would combine for 15 points.

EC's second half effort was sparked by a great shooting effort as the Soaring Eagles shot 47.8% from the field in the half.  Elmira would also drain 9 second half free throws to clinch the game. Look for Elmira to continue this type of play as they take on the Saints of St. Lawrence University on December 4th at 1:00 p.m.
