Pine Valley, NY – The EC Women's Tennis team lost a tough match today at the hands of the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College. Elmira managed to take one of three doubles points leaving the score 2-1 at the beginning of singles play.
Earning Elmira's lone doubles point was third doubles combination
Rebecca Kingman '11 (Hamilton, NJ -- Steinert) and rookie standout
Emily Marois '14 (Brooklyn, CT -- Woodstock Academy). The two played solid doubles as they controlled the match from start to finish. The doubles tandem would go up early in the match 5-2 before giving up back to back games, making the score 5-4. After the two dropped games EC would hold serve the rest of the way out ass they would go on to take the match at 8-6. As a doubles team, Kingman and Marois are 3-3 on the season.
Elmira would compete in the singles matches and would take one of six points.
Bri Palmiero '12 (Rochester, NY -- Bishop Kearney) would earn the sole singles win in a three set thriller. After dropping the first set 6-1,
Palmiero hung tough to take the second at 6-4. Since the match had not been decided already, a full third set was needed to decide the outcome of the match.
Palmiero would jump to a 4-1 lead in the third set and would never look back as she rolled to a 6-2 victory. This marks her fifth straight win of the season.
Women's Tennis will be back in action on Monday, September 27th as they travel to take on the Raiders of Roberts Wesleyan College at 4:00 p.m.
