Women’s Basketball Drops Home E8 Contest to Stevens, 67-52

Elmira, NYEC Women's Basketball hosted the Ducks of Stevens Tech. in an Empire 8 showdown this afternoon.  Both teams were looking to bounce back from three point losses the night prior.

In the first half Elmira couldn't quite find their stroke from the field as they went 6-for-21 from the field.  Half of Elmira's field goal attempts came from beyond the arc.  Rookie guard Maria Thannhauser '14 (Newfield, NY -- Newfield) led the Soaring Eagles in the first half in scoring as she netted 7 points, four of which came from free throw attempts.   EC would enter the half trailing 37-21.

EC would shoot much better in the second half allowing them to outscore the Ducks 31-30 in the half as Elmira went 10-for-23 from the field.  Jessica Zoltowski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) dropped 16 second half points en route to a 19 point finish for the game.  Classmate Thannhauser finished with 14 points off the bench.  EC received a great defensive effort from fourth year player Laura Bolan '11 (Newcomb, NY -- Newcomb Central) who made 5 blocks in today's contest and grabbed another 7 boards.

Look for Elmira to bounce back s they host Penn. Tech. on Monday, January 24th at the Speidel Gymnasium in Elmira, NY.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
