Charron Breaks EC Single-Game Goal Record in 11-1 Win

Pine Valley, NY – EC Women's Hockey hosted the Cougars of Chatham University in an ECAC West match-up. The Cougars entered the contest looking to pick up their first win of the season while EC was looking to pick up their 10th ECAC West win of the season.

EC wasted no time in tonight's contest as rookie Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers, PWHL) would notch three first period goals. Charron would score her first of the night at the 13:36 mark as she received a perfect pass from Maddy Charbonneau '14 (Greeley, CO -- Colorado Select, JWHL), leading to an open net for Charron to score. Katy Walker '12 (Edmonds, WA -- Colorado Select, JWHL) would also earn an assist on the game's opening goal. EC's second goal came just two minutes later as Charron scored on a power-play opportunity. She would bury the goal off a rebounded shot by teammate Amber Tirri' 14 (Ringwood, NJ -- Wyoming Seminary, NAPHA). Another two minutes later Charron would tally her third of the period as she would again score off a rebounded shot, this time from Madison Johnston '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Toronto Aeros, PWHL). Elmira would carry the 3-0 lead going into the first intermission.

The second period would prove to be much like the first as Charron would tally another hat-trick in the period. At the 4:13 mark Briana Saltstone '14 (North Bay, ONT -- Southwest Wildcats, PWHL) would score her second goal of the season to put Elmira ahead 4-0. Charbonneau and Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) picked up assists on the goal. At the 5:45 mark Charron would score her fourth of the night on assists from Alex McPhail '12 (Oakville, ONT -- Toronto Aeros, PWHL) and Amanda Ritzel '11 (Spencerport, NY -- Toronto Rattlers). Charron would tally two more goals in the period on assists from Johnston, Tirri, and Ella Stewart '14 (Mississauga, ONT -- Notre Dame Hounds Midgets). Elmira would enter the third period with a substantial 7-0 lead.

The third period would be filled with scoring as EC would put up another 4 goals in the period. Kelsey Evershed '14 (Franktown, ONT -- Winchendon School) scored EC's eighth goal of the contest while Charbonneau earned her third assist of the night. At the 9:17 mark Catilin Metcalf '13 (Calgary, AB -- Edge School for Athletes, JWHL) would score EC's ninth goal of the game as Charron picked up an assist. Chatham would get on the scoreboard on a short-handed goal but EC would respond right back as Ella Stewart '14 (Mississauga, ONT -- Notre Dame Hounds Midgets) scored a goal 24 seconds after the Chatham goal. Samantha Curk '14 (Dorchester, ONT -- Niagara University) tallied an assist on the goal. With the game coming to an end Saltstone scored Elmira's 11th goal of the game while Charron tallied her 8th point of the night as she assisted on the goal. Elmira Goalie Laura Proietto '13 (Woodbridge, ONT -- Etobicoke Dolphins, PWHL) earned her second win of the season as she made 22 saves in 60 minutes of action.

EC history was made tonight as Charron scored 6 goals breaking the former record of 4 goals held by Elmira great Laura Hurd '05. Charron was also one point shy from tying the most points in a game which is also held by Hurd.

Elmira will look for another win tomorrow as they take on Chatham in the second game of their two-game set. Face-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletics Center in Pine Valley, NY.
