Utica, NY – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team fell to host Utica College 2-1 Saturday evening. The win improves the Pioneers to 7-5-0 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 9-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Empire 8.
Despite being outshot 19-5 in the game EC got on the board first at the 24 minute mark when Edward Michelson '12 (Winsted, CT -- Cheshire) took a free kick and placed it in the top left corner of the net, beating Pioneers goalkeeper Anthony Caruso. Utica responded with two goals in the next 15 minutes to take a 2-1 halftime lead. The first came off a put back rebound, while the other was curled into the net off a corner kick.
Jared Micheller (Avon, CT -- The Winchendon School) made seven stops in net to help keep Elmira in the game, but the Soaring Eagle offense was unable to capitalize. Caruso allowed one goal while facing no other shots on net. EC returns to action Monday when they host Keuka College for 'Class of 2012 Recognition Day.' The match starts at 4:00 p.m.
