Women’s Volleyball Pulls Off Big Win Against Geneseo

Geneseo, NY – The EC Women's Volleyball team showed great determination Wednesday evening beating SUNY Geneseo in a dual match-up 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19). The win puts the Soaring Eagles at 19-4, while the Knights fall to 13-15.

EC started off slow, but with Brittany Raykoske '12 (Johnstown, NY -- Gloversville) and Sasha Zavadska '13 (Bratislava, SVK -- The British School) leading the way the team would pull off the win. The team combined for 49 kills, 45 assists, 12 aces, 75 digs and eight blocks. Raykoske led with 16 kills, while Zavadska was close behind with 15 kills. Raykoske also led the team with five aces, five digs and two blocks. Zavadska helped the team by contributing one assist, one ace, 15 digs and two blocks.     

The Purple and Gold saw some trouble in the second set losing it by two points, but they would fight back to win the third and fourth set. Other players that contributed to the great accomplishments tonight were Taryn Rumsey '14 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield), Molly Short '13 (Sterling, CO -- Sterling) and Abbie Martin '14 (Broadalbin, NY -- Broadalbin-Perth). Rumsey contributed 10 kills, five assists, two aces, and 18 digs. Short contributed one kill, 37 assists, one ace, 15 digs and four blocks, while Martin contributed four kills and three digs.

The Soaring Eagles return to action against Hartwick College this weekend at St. John Fisher for the 2nd round of the Empire 8 Conference Championships at 5:00 p.m.
