Elmira Women's Volleyball Stumbles Against Knights

Elmira, N.Y. – The Elmira women's volleyball team returned to conference action on Saturday afternoon, hosting the SUNY Geneseo Knights inside Speidel Gymnasium. The Soaring Eagles fought hard in the final two sets, but the Knights secured a 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-16, 25-19).

LEADERS
Averleigh McFarlan led Elmira offensively with five kills and six digs. Madalyn Devonshire contributed four kills, while Erin Bracken finished with three kills and three service aces. Vicki Titus tallied six digs and two service aces while Olivia Roccabruna paced the Soaring Eagles with 10 assists, Zoie Karcz contributing four of her own and four digs.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Geneseo took control early in the opening set, using a strong offensive attack to build an early advantage. EC found some momentum through a service ace from Bracken and another from Titus, while Devonshire and Bracken each recorded a kill. However, the Knights continued to extend their lead and closed out the first set, 25-9.

The Soaring Eagles showed more fight in the second set, trading points early with the Knights. Devonshire opened Elmira's scoring with a big kill, and Bracken followed with another to help keep the Soaring Eagles within reach. McFarlan added a kill later in the set, while EC capitalized on Geneseo errors to put together scoring opportunities. Despite the improved effort, the Knights pulled away late to claim the second set, 25-16.

Elmira put together its strongest stretch in the third set, keeping the score close and trading leads with Geneseo throughout the early half of the set. McFarlan recorded two kills, while Gabby Lewis and Aimee Bridges added kills of their own. Bracken also delivered back-to-back service aces to help the Soaring Eagles build a 15-13 advantage. The Knights responded with a run of their own to regain control, eventually closing out the set, 25-19, to complete the sweep.
