Men’s Soccer Wins Non-Conference Battle 3-2 at Pitt-Bradford

Bradford, PA – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat host Pitt-Bradford 3-2 Tuesday afternoon in Bradford, PA. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 11-2-1, while the loss drops the Panthers to 6-8-2.

Pitt-Bradford took the lead early off a penalty kick by Abdul-Razaq Toby in the 11th minute. The penalty kick was a result of a hand ball in the penalty box. EC fell behind 2-0 two minutes later when Corman Clint tacked on an unassisted goal. Despite playing for 80 minutes down a man and trailing by two scores Elmira continued to attack.

Five minutes before the half EC got on the board when Jason Guernsey'12 (Cherry Valley, NY -- Cherry Valley) played a corner into the box that was redirected off the head of Edward Michelson '12 (Winsted, CT -- Cheshire). The Purple and Gold carried momentum into intermission as they only trailed 2-1.

Nine minutes into the second half EC struck again this time with Michelson feeding Alexander Poole '13 (Chilmark, MA -- Martha's Vineyard). In the 72nd minute Ernesto Valverde '14 (East Hampton, NY -- East Hampton) provided the game-winner when he played a deflection off Panther goalkeeper Adam Forster and found the back of the net to complete an impressive Elmira comeback.

Jared Micheller '12 (Avon, CT -- The Winchendon School) finished with seven saves in net for the Soaring Eagles, while Forster stopped three shots for Pitt-Bradford. EC returns to action Saturday when they travel to take on Ithaca at 1:00 p.m.
