Ithaca, NY – The Elmira College Field Hockey team dropped its final game of the season 6-1 at Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 2-13-1 overall and 2-5-0 in Empire 8 play, while the win improves the Bombers to 5-11-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play.
Elmira got off to a great start as six minutes in Ashland Hall '15 (Belfast, ME -- Belfast Area) backhanded a rebound off her own shot to put the Purple and Gold up 1-0. Unfortunately the EC defense could not handle the Ithaca offense as the Bombers scored three goals before halftime to take a 3-1 lead.
Ithaca continued to control the shots advantage in the second half, as they outshot EC 27-7 in the contest. The Bombers would tack on three second half goals to prevail 6-1. Lauren Thomas '14 (Marshfield, MA – Marshfield) finished stopped 16 shots in net for Elmira, while Kelly Singleton and Samantha Grassi combined to make five saves for Ithaca. This caps off a season for Elmira in which it defeated defending conference champion Utica and showed remarkable improvement and great effort throughout the year.
