Women’s Volleyball Loses to Cortland; Sweeps Hunter

New York, NY – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (15-25, 25-16, 17-25, 22-25) match to nationally-ranked Cortland, while sweeping host Hunter College 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-9) Saturday evening in New York City. The two matches move the Soaring Eagles to 22-7.

In the first match against Cortland Brittany Raykoske '12 (Johnstown, NY – Gloversville) and Taryn Rumsey '14 (Mansfield, PA – Mansfield) combined to pound out 25 kills. Rumsey also finished with 11 digs. Sasha Zavadska '13 (Bratislava, SVK – The British School) finished with nine kills and 15 digs, while Molly Short '13 (Sterling, CO) dished out an astonishing 43 assists.

In the second match Elmira was in control throughout, easily taking care of host Hunter. Zavadska and Raykoske combined to produce 23 kills. Rumsey pounded out six service aces, while recording six digs. Catherine Miller '14 (Pittsburg, PA – Penn Hills) finished with 13 digs with Short dishing out 34 helpers.

EC returns to action today when they face off with conference rival Ithaca at 10:00 a.m. and Ramapo at noon.
