Pittsburgh, PA – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team lost another tough game Saturday afternoon 66-46 against the Spartans of Case Western Reserve at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament.
Jessica Zoltowski '14 (Erie, PA -- Harbor Creek) and Alex Balara '15 (Marlton, NJ -- Gloucester Catholic) both played well scoring 27 of the team's points.
The Spartans controlled the game by taking an early lead and just staying on top of the Soaring Eagles. The Spartans started off on an 11-3 run playing tough defense that just caused EC to turn the ball over and take difficult shots. However, after 10 minutes of play in the first half EC continued to battle narrowing the Spartans lead to five points. Case Western would try to stretch their lead, but EC would keep fighting bringing the score to 31-24 at halftime.
The Soaring Eagles would fight even harder in the start of the second half keeping the game within six points. Though the Soaring Eagles would fight hard it would not be enough to overtake the Spartans as they would control the last 13 minutes of the game.
Zoltowski and Balara shot the best from the field, making nine jumpers and five three pointers. The duo contributed six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Darcy James '12 (Castile, NY -- Letchworth Central) contributed to the team with nine points, two assists and five rebounds. Zoltowski, Balara and James all made crucial three pointers in the game to help give the Soaring Eagles some opportunities.
The Soaring Eagles will host their first home game of the season on Tuesday, November 22nd as they take on the nationally-ranked number eight University of Rochester Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m.
