Men’s Soccer Falls in Conference Championship

Hoboken, NJ – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team lost a tightly fought contest today in the Empire 8 Championship game against Stevens Institute of Technology. The loss takes the Soaring Eagles to 12-3-2 overall, while the Ducks improve to 16-2.

Stevens controlled the ball most of the game, as they outshot Elmira 21-2. However, Elmira made their chances count first when Empire 8 Rookie of the Year Andre German '15 (Campinas, Brazil -- The Winchendon School) scored off a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. EC's defense stood strong throughout the game allowing only seven shots to go on goal. The star of defense was goalie Jared Micheller '12 (Avon, CT -- The Winchendon School) with 5 crucial saves.

The Ducks responded to EC's goal in the 39th minute of the first half when Ben Hirsch took the ball and passed it up to Zach Adler for the score. This would lead to halftime with the score tied at 1-1 and the game being spread wide open. In the second half EC would look to create more opportunities on the offensive side, but Ted Michelson '12 (Winstead, CT -- Cheshire Academy) would get the only opportunity to get a shot on goal in the second half. Although the Ducks would seek many opportunities to score, the Soaring Eagles defense would stand strong for most of the second half. The Ducks finally got its opportunity to score in the 87th minute with Zach Adler coming up with the breakaway goal to seal the game.
