Men’s Basketball Falls to Visiting Clarkson

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team fell behind early and couldn't come back late as it fell to Clarkson 69-49 Sunday evening in Speidel Gymnasium. The win improves the Golden Knights to 4-1, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-8.

Clarkson used an early 12-0 run to take a 17-5 lead eight minutes into the game and expanded that lead to 20 at the half, as they led 43-23. EC proved to be tough in the second half as both teams scored 26 points.

The Golden Knights led by as many as 23 early in the second stanza but EC closed it to 15 after a David Borelli '15 (Rochester, NY -- Bishop Kearney) lay-up off the feed from Matt Newell '14 (Cranston, RI -- St. Andrew's) with 9:32 remaining. That is as close as the Soaring Eagles would get as Clarkson held on for the 20 point win.

Clarkson dominated the glass outrebounding Elmira 44-29. The Knights shot 44 percent from the field in the game compared to 33 percent for EC, however the Purple and Gold converted on 42 percent of its shots in the second half.
