Hamburg, NY -- The Elmira College Men's Soccer team continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 win at host Hilbert College Wednesday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles scored early in the first half, and again in the second half to hold off a late charge from the Hawks. With the win EC improves to 4-0 on the season, while Hilbert falls to 0-5 overall.
Edward Michelson '12 (Winsted, CT -- Cheshire) drew first blood on a rifled-kick to the lower right corner off a restart in the 14th minute. The Purple and Gold outshot the Hawks 7-4 in the first stanza and 13-7 overall, as they led 1-0 at intermission. In the 71st minute EC struck again as Ryan Limero '14 (Belchertown, MA -- Dublin School) fed a cutting Alexander Poole '13 (Chilmark, MA -- Martha's Vineyard) who knocked it home for a 2-0 Elmira lead. Eric Russell scored off a penalty kick in the 79th minute for Hilbert but the Soaring Eagle defense shut down the Hawks the rest of the way to secure the 2-1 win.
Jared Micheller '12 (Avon, CT – Winchendon School) finished with four stops in net, while Cislak Kamil made four saves for Hilbert. EC returns home as they face Alfred University Saturday at noon.
