Women’s Volleyball Splits in Second Day of Stevens Tournament

Hoboken, NJ – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team split two games in the second day of the Stevens Tournament as they beat conference rival Stevens 3-0 and fell to Fairleigh Dickinson 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Hoboken, New Jersey. The Soaring Eagles (8-1) came into today's matches undefeated and continued to click despite the one loss.

In the first match the Purple and Gold were clicking on all cylinders as they swept Stevens 25-17, 25-20, 25-21. Taryn Rumsey '14 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) led the way with 11 kills, four service aces and seven digs. Sasha Zavadska '13 (Bratislava, SVK -- The British School) and Brittany Raykoske '12 (Johnstown, NY -- Gloversville) added seven kills apiece while Molly Short '13 (Sterling, CO -- Sterling) notched a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs.

In the second match the Soaring Eagles matched up with a tough Fairleigh Dickinson squad and eventually fell in four sets, 19-25, 13-25, 25-19, 21-25.  Raykoske led the way with 13 kills, three digs and six blocks. Zavadska and Rumsey combined for 16 kills and 28 digs. Francene Cicia '13 (Sunderland, MA -- Frontier Regional) had a solid performance tallying three service aces and nine digs.

EC returns to action September 24th and 25th as they host the first round of Empire 8 Conference Pool Play. The Purple and Gold start the tournament on the 24th with a 10:00 a.m. tilt against Alfred University.
