Men’s Soccer Records 27 Shots in Shutout Win Over Canton

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team used a barrage of shots and controlled possession throughout the game to glide by SUNY Canton 2-0 Wednesday afternoon in Elmira. The Soaring Eagles improve to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play, while the Roos drop to 3-5-1 overall.

EC outshot its opponents 15-0 in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net, as the two teams played to a scoreless tie at the half. The Purple and Gold continued to dominate possession time and shot attempts in the second half, and that effort finally paid off in the 72nd minute. Josh Rumble '14 (Yorktown, VA – York) took a corner kick from the right side and played it short to Alexander Poole '13 (Chilmark, MA – Martha's Vineyard). Poole rifled a quick ball back to Rumble who immediately struck a pass into the box that was redirected by the head of Andre Germano '15 (Campinas, Brazil – Winchendon School) into the left corner of the net, beating Roo goalkeeper Sankung Sillah.

The Soaring Eagles added an insurance goal 13 minutes later when Logan Chappell '14 (Flushing, MI – Flushing) and Germano executed a give-and-go. Chappell belted a shot into the left side-netting for the final result of 2-0. EC finished with a 27-9 shots advantage and had a distinct advantage of 12-4 in shots on goal. Jared Micheller '12 (Avon, CT – Winchendon School) stopped four shots on the way to a shutout in net for Elmira, while Sillah made 10 saves for the Roos.

The Elmira College Men's Soccer team returns to action when it visits Nazareth College Saturday for a noon kickoff.
