Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day as they hosted Keuka College Saturday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles came out victorious as
Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia broke the Elmira College all-time shutouts record.
LEADERS
Anthony Lillo-Granger collected a goal and an assist.
Luka Tatanashvili added his third goal of the season while
Alex King scored the first goal of his EC career.
Ryan Irizarry Padilla assisted twice.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
It was a slow start offensively for both sides, with neither team able to create much of an attack in the opening 10 minutes. Keuka attempted a few shots but were unable to test Cruz Gandia, putting all of their attempts wide. In the 20th minute, Elmira had the first big chance for either side.
Daniel Brown's shot forced a strong save from the Wolves goalkeeper, who quickly stopped
Miguel Robiou de la Noval's rebound attempt immediately after. The Soaring Eagles began to find their offensive rhythm, putting pressure on the Keuka defense. EC broke through just before halftime when Lillo-Granger picked out King, who curled his shot into the back of the net to give the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Elmira defended its lead well in the opening stages of the second half, limiting chances and defending set pieces well when called upon. The Soaring Eagles added an insurance goal in the 85th minute when Irizarry Padilla's flick-on found Tatanashvili, who made no mistake as he buried his third goal of the season. A minute later, Irizarry Padilla set up Lillo-Granger, who slotted the ball past the Keuka goalkeeper to secure the 3-0 victory for the Soaring Eagles.
