Cazenovia, NY – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team continued its brilliant start to the 2011 campaign with a 2-0 win against host Cazenovia College Wednesday evening. The Soaring Eagles, who are ranked 10th regionally, improve to 9-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play, while the Wildcats drop to 3-5-1.
The Purple and Gold outshot Cazenovia 8-6 in the first half and 17-10 overall. Andre Germano '15 (Campinas, Brazil -- The Winchendon School) broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute on an unassisted goal. EC went into intermission with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half the Soaring Eagles poured on the offensive intensity as they outshot the Wildcats 9-4 in the period. At the 71:05 mark, Jared Cipriano '14 (Wilmington, VT -- Twin Valley) registered his first marker of the season on an unassisted score. The Elmira back line played lock down defense and Jared Micheller '12 (Avon, CT -- The Winchendon School) was a fortress in net, making six saves on the way to his sixth shutout of the season. Sam Cimino recorded nine saves in net for Cazenovia.
The Men's Soccer team returns to action Saturday as they host Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher at noon.
