Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team fought past visiting Keystone College 3-0 Sunday afternoon to win in the season-opening game for both squads. The Soaring Eagles controlled the ball, which resulted in them outshooting the Giants 25-16.
EC got on the board late in the second half as
John Bejakian '13 (Winchester, MA – Tilton Academy) beat his defender and fed
Jackson Correia' 14 (West Simsbury, CT – Masters School). Correia converted a sliding kick that deflected off Giants goalkeeper Dany O'Rourke for EC's first goal of the season.
Just under 10 minutes into the second half
Ryan Limero '14 (Belchertown, MA – Dublin School) played a ball up to
Doug Adjei '14 (Reistertown, MD – Loyola Prep) who used a burst of speed to beat his defender.
Adjei threaded a cross to
Matthew Feldman '14 (Guilford, CT – Guilford) that he finished with a one-time strike into the top right corner of the net.
In the 58th minute the Soaring Eagles would add an insurance goal after
Josh Rumble '14 (Yorktown, VA – York) made a nifty move to beat his defender on the left end line, earning a penalty kick.
Andre Germano '15 (Campinas, Brazil – Winchendon School) made the effort pay off as he found the back of the net on the ensuing kick for his first goal in the Purple and Gold.
Jared Micheller '12 (Avon, CT – Winchendon School) finished with 10 saves in net, while O'Rourke stopped 13 shots for the Giants.
The EC men's soccer team returns to the pitch for a home match Wednesday against Canton slated for 4:00 p.m.
