Men’s Basketball Falls on the Road at Nazareth

Rochester, NY – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team fell on the road to host Nazareth, 89-36, Saturday evening in Rochester. The win improves the Golden Flyers to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-14 overall and 0-4 in Empire 8 competition.

EC fell behind early and couldn't overcome Nazareth's offense as the Golden Flyers made nearly as many field goal attempts (21) as the number of shots the Soaring Eagles attempted (24) in the opening half. Nine Elmira turnovers proved costly, as Nazareth shot 57 percent from the field in the opening half, while the Purple and Gold also shot a respectable 46 percent.  Dan O'Brien '14 (Oneonta, NY -- Oneonta) led Elmira in the opening half, tallying 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting.

Elmira really struggled offensively in the second half shooting under 10 percent and only producing 12 points. Nazareth continued to poor it on offensively, shooting an equal 57 percent in the second half, thwarting any attempt for the Purple and Gold to get back into the game.

O'Brien led EC as the only player in double figures, finishing with 15 points. Nazareth placed four scorers in double figures led by 19 points and eight assists from Tyshun Stephens, and a double-double from Greg Lothridge with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

EC returns to action Friday when they travel to take on conference rival Ithaca College at 8:00 p.m.
