Men’s Volleyball Spikes Past Lions in Four Sets

Behrend, PA – The Elmira College Men's Volleyball team ousted host Penn State Behrend, 3-1, Tuesday evening. The four set win (26-24, 25-13, 19-25, 25-20) improves the Soaring Eagles to 6-4 overall, while the loss drops the Lions to 0-6 overall.
 
The Purple and Gold snuck out an extremely close first set, 26-24. EC then used the momentum from its first set victory to cruise to a 25-13 advantage in the second. The Lions pounced back for a 25-19 third set win, before Elmira closed them out in a tight 25-20 fourth set.
 
Ryan Gelenitis '14 (Brick, NJ -- Christian Brothers Academy) led the Soaring Eagles with 14 kills and six digs, while classmate Eric Sandmann '14 (Glenville, NY -- Burnt Hills) finished with 10 kills. Michael Vellutato '14 (Topanga, CA -- Redondo Union) and Mike Stianche '15 (Bethlehem, PA -- Bethlehem Catholic) proved to be the offensive catalysts, tallying 41 and 10 assists, respectively. Austin Sanderl '15 (Pittsford, NY -- Rush Henrietta) led EC with three service aces, while Nick Scalia '15 (Huntingdon, PA -- Huntingdon) added 10 digs.
 
The Soaring Eagles return to action Saturday when they take part in the Thiel Tournament. Elmira will take on host, Thiel, at 3:00 p.m.
