Women’s Volleyball Drops Four Setter to Clarkson

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team dropped a tough non-conference match to visiting Clarkson University 3-1 (19-25, 10-25, 25-14, 20-25) Friday evening in Speidel Gymnasium. The win improves the Golden Knights to 18-4, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 11-10.

Clarkson got out to a 9-4 start in the opening set and held on for a 25-19 victory. In the second set the Golden Knights dominated 25-10. The Purple and Gold responded in the fourth set with a convincing 25-14 win. The match came down to a tight fourth set which EC could not quite pull out as it fell 25-20 and the Golden Knights took the match.


Sasha Zavadska '13 led Elmira with 12 kills, 10 digs and four total blocks, but also struggled with her accuracy tallying 12 errors. Taryn Rumsey '14 recorded 11 kills and 15 digs to go along with two service aces. Meanwhile, Amanda Matson '13 pounded out seven kills and five assisted blocks, while Molly Short '13 dished out 30 assists and recorded nine digs and Catherine Miller '14 tallied 10 digs.

The Soaring Eagles return to action tomorrow when they host Mount Aloysius at 12:00 p.m. in Speidel Gymnasium.
