Women’s Volleyball Finishes Weekend 4-0 at NYU Tournament

New York, NY – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team used to sweeps of Brooklyn College and the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday to finish the weekend 4-0. The Soaring Eagles have now won 10 of their last 11 matches and end the regular season 21-11.

In its first match of the day EC downed Brooklyn 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-17). The Purple and Gold were dominant combining for 41 kills and just eight errors, hitting a remarkable .478 as a team. Meanwhile, the defense held Brooklyn to just a -.083 hitting percentage.

Amanda Matson '13 led the way pounding out a match-high 15 kills. Molly Short '13 dished out a match-high 21 assists and Sasha Zavadska '13 and Taryn Rumsey '14 combined for 11 kills. Catherine Miller '14 recorded seven digs and the Soaring Eagles combined for nine service aces as a team.

Elmira was equally as successful in its second match of the day ousting Mount Saint Vincent 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-23). The Soaring Eagles hit .182 with 39 kills and 19 errors, while holding their opponents to a .000 hitting percentage on 17 kills and 17 errors.

Zavadska and Rumsey each tallied 10 kills apiece, both hitting .368, while Short dished out 22 assists. Sami Hanes '16 finished with 12 helpers, Melanie Pershyn '13 added five service aces and Francene Cicia '13 tallied seven digs.  

The EC Women's Volleyball team returns to action Saturday when it hosts the Empire 8 Conference Championships. Elmira will play Nazareth at noon in the first semifinal in Speidel Gymnasium.
