Men’s Soccer Falls to .500 in Conference Play After 1-0 Loss to Ithaca

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team was held scoreless for the second straight conference contest as it fell 1-0 at home against Ithaca College on Parents Weekend in Elmira. The win improves the Bombers to 5-2-4 overall and 3-0-1 in Empire 8 competition, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 9-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.

Although both teams had six shot attempts each in the opening half Ithaca held a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard. In the 32nd minute the Bombers got on the board when Blair Carney corralled the ball in the right corner. EC keeper Jordan Doughtery '16 came charging out to the edge of the penalty box. Carney played a quick cross to Brandon Glass who finished into the open left corner of the net. Elmira had a golden chance earlier in the half as Brian Lowe '16 fired a shot from 25 yards out that was partially deflected by a defender and struck off the crossbar. Both teams had three corner opportunities as Ithaca took a 1-0 lead into intermission

In the 63rd minute Dougherty made a huge save on a great shot in the upper right corner by Ithaca's Casey Williamson to keep the deficit at just one. Elmira pushed late to try and tie the game but came up just short as it could not convert on a couple of chances down the stretch.

Overall Ithaca held a 19-16 shots and 10-5 shots on goal advantage in the contest. Both teams finished with six corner kicks apiece. Dougherty stopped nine shots in the contest for Elmira, while Kenny Chapman made five saves for the Bombers.

Elmira returns to action Sunday when it takes on Sage Colleges starting at 2:00 p.m. on Campus Field.
