Men’s Basketball Falls on Road to Golden Knights

Potsdam, NY – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team was unable to complete a second half comeback as it fell 69-55 Friday evening in Alumni Gymnasium. The win improves the Golden Knights to 4-1, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-4.

Clarkson got off to a quick 8-2 start but Elmira responded with an 8-2 run culminating in a Chris Cassidy '14 to tie the game at 10-10 early. The Golden Knights led by as many as 10 in the opening half, but the Purple and Gold closed the deficit within six at 32-26 at intermission.

The Golden Knights continued to pound the ball inside and get looks in the paint as well as get to the free throw line in the second half. Clarkson led by as many as 18 in the half before holding on for the 14 point victory.

Cassidy paced EC with 15 points and seven rebounds on 6-for-9 shooting, while Neil Randolph '15 chipped in with 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from three-point range. Derrick Vogel '14 added seven points and six assists for Elmira. Brothers John and Jerry Coleman led Clarkson with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Nate Uline added 12 points for the Golden Knights.

Elmira turned the ball over 15 times, while the Golden Knights protected the rock remarkably well committing just four turnovers in 40 minutes. Clarkson held advantages in points off turnovers (14-0), second chance points (12-2) and points in the paint (34-12). Meanwhile, the Soaring Eagles held an impressive 24-13 edge in bench points.

The Men's Basketball team returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Canton, NY to take on St. Lawrence University starting at 4:00 p.m.
