Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team used a 25-6 run over the last 10 minutes of the game to defeat the Penn Tech Wildcats 63-42. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 4-5, the loss drops the Wildcats to 5-5.
The game saw five ties and five lead changes in the first 20 minutes of play. Penn Tech led by as many as four points with 10:44 left in the first half, but Elmira used a late run to close out the half with a 31-24 lead.
Liz Forrest '14 led the Soaring Eagles with nine points in the stanza.
The second half remained close between the teams. Elmira led by just two with 9:59 remaining in the game and then the team got hot from three.
Jessica Zoltowski '14 hit back-to-back-to-back threes to break open the game and the Wildcats never recovered. The Soaring Eagles cruised the rest of the half to a 63-42 victory.
Zoltowski led the team with 19 points and six rebounds, while
Maria Thannhaser '14 followed with 12 points and five assists. Jamie Steer and Kierstin Steer led the Wildcats scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The EC Women's Basketball team returns to action December 30
th when it takes on Fitchburg State in the Key Largo Classic in Key Largo, Florida. The game is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
