Men’s Volleyball Falls In Five Sets to D’Youville

Buffalo, NY – The Elmira College Men's Volleyball team fell in a tough five set match to D'Youville College 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 10-15) Wednesday evening in Buffalo. The win improves the Spartans to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in UVC play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 12-7 overall and 4-2 in conference competition.
 
In the first set EC got out to a great start winning easily, 25-18. In the second set D'Youville came back strong responding to the Soaring Eagle attack, winning 25-22. Elmira took the lead once again in the third frame, winning the last three points in the set to take a 2-1 set lead. However, the Spartans fought back even harder in the fourth and fifth set to close out the match.  
 
Ryan Gelentis '14 (Brick, NJ -- Christian Brothers Academy) led the Soaring Eagles with 11 kills, two aces and seven digs, while Wyatt Hamilton '15 (Jupiter, FL -- Suncoast) and Mike Stianche '15 (Bethlehem, PA -- Bethlehem Catholic) contributed 24 kills and 21 digs. Hamilton also added two solo blocks and five block assists in the match. Michael Vellutato '14 (Topanga, CA -- Redondo Union) played well, recording 50 assists, while Ladislav Lelkes '15 (Bratislava, SVK -- Esprit) tallied eight kills, one solo block, and three block assists.  
 
The Elmira College Men's Volleyball team returns to action Saturday, February 25th when they travel to the Baruch College Tournament to face Kean College at 2:00 p.m.
