Box Score Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against visiting Clarkson University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action on Campus Field. The tie moves the Soaring Eagles to 1-3-1 overall, while the Golden Knights now sit at 4-0-1.
EC got off to a tremendous start coming out with crisp passing and impressive buildups leading to good scoring opportunities. In the third minute
Kelsie DeKarski '14 played a nice corner kick to
Emily Karpinski '14 who headed it just wide. The best chance at a score came off another beautiful

drilled a screamer off the crossbar as it bounced out.
Karpinski had a total of three shots on target in the opening half, as Elmira held an 8-4 shots on goal advantage. However, the game remained tied at one after 45 minutes.
The Purple and Gold finally saw their chances pay off early in the second half when
Kelly nailed a shot on net that was saved by Golden Knight keeper Kim Kenline. The rebound ricocheted out near the 18 yard mark and
Karpinski gathered it in traffic and lasered a perfect strike into the top right corner to get EC on the board.
After the EC marker Clarkson picked up the intensity defensively and controlled possession much like Elmira had done in the opening half. In the 74
th minute Jessica Budaj played a sliding cross that made its way on net.
Megan Lowe '13 made the initial save but the ball ended up with Anna Demasi in front of net who finished it into the open net to tie the game at one all. Neither team could find a go-ahead goal in the final 16 minutes as the game went to overtime.
In the first extra period
Kelly had a golden opportunity that closed quickly as she got her shot blocked by a Clarkson defender. In the second stanza of overtime the junior had a header on target but Kenline once again made the save. After 110 minutes of play the game ended in a hard fought tie.
Lowe finished with 13 huge saves, including nine in the second half and overtime periods. Kenline stopped 14 shots for the Golden Knights.
Karpinski led EC with four shots on goal, while
Kelly,
Natty Vogler '13,
Caitlyn Criscuolo '14 and
Kelsey Kiel '13
each added two shots on target apiece.
The Elmira College Women's Soccer team returns to action tomorrow when it hosts St. Lawrence University in non-conference action starting at 1:00 p.m. on Campus Field.
