Strong Defensive Effort Not Enough as Elmira Falls 1-0 to Undefeated Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's soccer team put together a resilient defensive performance on Saturday afternoon but came up just short against undefeated Brockport, falling 1-0 on the road in Empire 8 action.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 0, Brockport 1
LOCATION: Brockport, NY | A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (2-11-1, 1-6-2 Empire 8), Brockport (11-0-3, 9-0 Empire 8)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a scoreless first half in which goalkeeper Sarah Cantrell '29 made four key saves, including a penalty kick save just 8:43 into the contest, the Soaring Eagles kept pace with the Golden Eagles' high-powered offense for much of the match. Brockport, which entered the contest unbeaten at 12-0-3 overall, broke through in the 59th minute when Caitlin Nelson scored off an assist from McKenna Slate, netting the game's only goal.
  • Cantrell was strong in net, registering six saves over 90 minutes to keep Elmira within striking distance. Offensively, Bella Thomas '28 and Emily Seiler '28 recorded Elmira's two shots, while the Soaring Eagles' back line limited Brockport's opportunities early before facing heavy pressure in the second half.
  • The Golden Eagles outshot Elmira 18-2 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
UP NEXT:
Elmira concludes its home schedule on Saturday, October 25 when hosting Nazareth University at Campus Field at 2:00 PM.
