Alfred, NY – Two scores in the first 20 minutes paced the Elmira College Women's Soccer team to an important 2-0 win against Alfred Wednesday evening. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Saxons to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in conference competition.

Emily Kelly '14 (Rochester, NY -- Nazareth Academy) made a great individual effort working the ball up the sideline to earn an EC corner.
Kelsie DeKarski '14 (Marshfield, MA -- Marshfield) played a beautiful corner kick off a set piece where
Emily Karpinski '14 (Freehold, NJ -- Red Bank Catholic) redirected it into the back of the net with a header, beating Saxon keeper Sanjo Scheer to open up an early lead on the road.
The Soaring Eagles kept their foot on the gas pedal as just over 11 minutes later they cashed in again.
Caitlyn Criscuolo '14 (Cheshire, CT -- Cheshire) received a through ball near midfield and took a defender 1-on-1, beating her and finishing from 14 yards out to create a nice cushion. The Purple and Gold controlled the ball and the scoring opportunities in the opening half, outshooting Alfred 7-1 with a distinct 5-1 shots on goal advantage as they carried a 2-0 advantage into intermission.
Elmira continued its dominance in the second half with an additional three shots, two of which were on net. Meanwhile, the Soaring Eagle back line proved strong not allowing a single shot over the final 45 minutes.

Megan Lowe '13 (Leroy, NY -- Leroy) stopped one shot in her second shutout of the season, while Scheer made five saves for Alfred.
The EC Women's Soccer team returns to the pitch Sunday when it travels to Troy, NY to take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 3:00 p.m.
