Late Push Not Enough for Women's Soccer in First Road Match

Williamsport, Pa. - The Elmira College women's soccer team traveled to Penn College for their first road match of the season. The Wildcats took an early advantage in the first half, but a goal in the final seconds left Elmira to fall short 2-1.

LEADERS
Brook Wilcox lead the offensive charge with Elmira's lone goal, finishing with three shots and two on goal. Bella Thomas followed with two shots on goal while Amy Ferrier recorded an assist and one shot on frame. In goal, Sarah Cantrell recorded three saves.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Purple & Gold came out looking to strike early, as Thomas had an early attempt stopped by the Penn College defense. Cantrell made a pair of saves during the opening 20 minutes to keep the game scoreless. Amelia Sacritini then forced a save with a shot in the 21'. Penn College broke through to take the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Cantrell stayed strong between the posts, recording another save to see EC enter the half trailing by one.

Elmira came out aggressively to start the second half, with Wilcox testing the Penn College goalkeeper less than four minutes into the period. The Soaring Eagles continued to create chances, earning three corner kicks between the 53rd and 59th minutes. Ferrier forced a saved shot in the 64th minute, while Elmira continued to pressure the Wildcat defense. Penn College recorded their second goal in the 77th minute to elevate their lead.

The Soaring Eagles refused to go quiet, earning another corner kick in the final minute before Thomas recorded a saved shot with just over a minute remaining. Elmira earned another corner, and with just one second remaining on the clock, Wilcox found the back of the net off a feed from Ferrier to cut the deficit to 2-1. The late goal proved to be the final play of the match, as Penn College held on for the victory.
