Box Score Clarks Summit, PA – The Elmira College Men's Soccer team got off to a quick start and never looked back cruising by Baptist Bible 6-0 Monday afternoon in Clarks Summit. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 1-0, while the loss drops the Defenders to 1-1 on the season.
The Purple and Gold started their scoring barrage in the 14th minute when reigning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year
Andre Germano '15 tallied an early unassisted goal. After being awarded a penalty kick from a foul in the box in the 30
th minute,
Ernesto Valverde '14 made the opportunity count striking home EC's second goal of the day.
Three minutes later Elmira continued to apply relentless pressure and it was rewarded when
Ryan Limero '14 cashed in on an unassisted score. At the 40:09 mark
Tre Ming '16
played a nice corner kick to
Jackson Correia '14 who capitalized heading it into the back of the net for a fourth score in the opening half. Overall, EC outshot Baptist Bible 19-0 in the first half including a 9-0 shots on goal advantage, taking a 4-0 lead into intermission.
The Soaring Eagles tacked on two goals in the first 23 minutes of the second half to extend their lead.
Valverde fed
Limero for the first marker in the 61st minute and then found
Ming seven minutes later for his first collegiate goal.
EC finished the contest outshooting the Defenders 29-4, and held a 14-0 shots on goal advantage.
Valverde paced the Soaring Eagle attack with four points, while
Ming added three in the points column.
Ming,
Germano and
Matthew Feldman '14 led the Purple and Gold with four, three, and three shots on goal, respectively.
Valverde and
Limero each placed two shots on target.
Kevin Huggins '16 made his first career collegiate start in net for the Soaring Eagles, facing four shots, none of which made their way on net. Dillon Bowman stopped seven shots between the posts for Baptist Bible.
The Elmira College Men's Soccer team returns to action Saturday when they travel to Utica, NY to take part in the Utica College Tournament. The Purple and Gold are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. tilt with Lehman College.
