Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team continued its stellar play by going 2-0 on the second day of the EC Invitational, defeating the College at Brockport 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-16) and Houghton College 3-2 (25-12, 21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-8) to capture the tournament title. EC went up early 17-13 in the first set and although it had some unforced errors held on to take the first set 25-22. In the second stanza the Purple and Gold got off to a quick start leading 8-2 and never looked back cruising 25-12. The third frame proved to be much of the same as Elmira took home the sweep disposing of the Golden Eagles 25-16.

Elmira's second match of the day was a tilt with a familiar opponent in Houghton College that is a new member of the Empire 8 conference this year. EC took care of business in the first set downing the Highlanders 25-12. In the second set it was a tight match back-and-forth as Houghton held a 21-19 advantage and held on for the 25-21 victory.

EC seized a 22-15 advantage in the third frame, but Houghton scored six of the next seven points to bring the set to 23-21 in favor of the Purple and Gold. Elmira took the next two points to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Highlanders held tough as neither team took larger than a three point lead in the fourth frame. After a 22-22 tie, two Soaring Eagle mistakes helped Houghton secure a 25-22 victory, leading to the decisive fifth set. EC shot out to a 10-3 lead and held on to win the set and the match 15-8.

The EC Women's Volleyball team returns to action Friday when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take part in the Carnegie Mellon tournament. The Purple and Gold square off with Wooster at 2:00 p.m. and Muskingum at 4:00 p.m.
