Morrisville, NY – The EC Men's Hockey team recorded five goals in the final period en route to an 8-5 victory over Morrisville State College at the Morrisville IcePlex. The Soaring Eagles improve to 6-9-0 overall, while the Mustangs fall to 1-13-2 on the season.
EC got off to a very quick start scoring just 20 seconds into the game with
Brian Depp '16 feeding it to
Carter Shinkaruk '16 for his sixth score on the season. At the 5:30 mark of the period EC stretched out its lead when
Eric David '15 put it in the back of the net with
Josh Burnell '15 and
Mark Morikawa '13 assisting on the goal. The score stayed 2-0 for the rest of the period with EC outshooting the Mustangs 18-9.
In the second period the Mustangs finally got on the board at the 3:48 mark when Ryan Marcuz recorded a goal, while Mike Dolman and Dalton Gilbert helped out on the play. At the 8:51 minute mark EC took a two goal lead with
D'Arcy Oakes '13 registering his first goal of the game. Assisting on the play were
Taylor Love '16 and
Jordan Robertson '16. Less than one minute later on a power play the Mustangs cut it back down to a one goal lead when Mike Dolman recorded the score. The game remained at 3-2 in favor of Elmira for the rest of the period.
In the final period of play things became interesting as Morrisville scored the first two goals in the period to take a 4-3 lead halfway through. EC responded with
Oakes, Greg Whittle '16, Michael Collins '16 and
Jesper Strale '14 each registering a goal to take a 7-4 lead with two minutes and 40 seconds left in the game. The Mustangs responded with one more score at the 19:05 mark, but the Soaring Eagles were able to seal off the game when
Strale recorded an empty net goal with 23 seconds left.
Darren MacDonald '13 earned his third win for the Soaring Eagles recording 28 saves, while Jakob Rasmussen recorded 38 saves in the loss for the Mustangs. The EC Men's Hockey team will return to action tomorrow when it hosts Morrisville State College at the Murray Athletic Center at 7:00 p.m.
