Williamsport, PA -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team (12-7) posted a 3-0 road win over the Wildcats of Pennsylvania College of Technology (4-14). In tonight's win, history was made as
Taryn Rumsey '14 moved into sole possession of sixth place in Elmira College's All-Time Record Book for career kills as she upped her four-year total to 1,372.
Elmira began tonight's non-conference match in strong form, dropping just 10 points in the opening set. Maybe more impressive was Elmira's efficiency in the first set as they totaled 11 kills with just two errors on 24 attempts for a team hitting percentage of .375, EC's fourth highest hitting percentage in a single set this season.
From there, Elmira continued their dominance by claiming the next two sets at 25-18 and 25-20. In total, the Purple and Gold boasted a team hitting percentage of .243, their second best hitting percentage of the year. EC's highest hitting percentage of the 2013 season (.432) came against the same team, Pennsylvania College of Technology, just four days ago.
The Soaring Eagles were led offensively by Rumsey, who totaled 12 kills to move her into sixth place on Elmira College's All-Time list for career kills, passing former EC standout Jamie Callahan '02.
Ashley Heiman '16 chipped in with a career high 10 kills while classmate
Sami Hanes '16 guided the EC offense with 25 assists. Hanes was also a key contributor on defense as she made eight digs.
Catherine Miller '14 and
Amanda Blinkinsop '16 also combined to make 15 digs in today's contest.
Elmira will look to build on tonight's win as the Soaring Eagles prepare for the Empire 8 Crossover Weekend. EC will play in two conference matches starting on Friday, October 4th and continuing on October 5th. All matches will take place in Speidel Gymnasium in Elmira, NY.
