Women’s Volleyball Wins Two at Cazenovia Dig Pink Tournament

Cazenovia, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team (15-9) picked up a pair of 3-0 wins on the first day of the Cazenovia Dig Pink Tournament.  Elmira took down host Cazenovia College (5-21) in their first match of the night before defeating New Jersey City University (6-15) in the nightcap. 

Taryn Rumsey '14 led the Purple and Gold with 23 kills on the day to go along with 18 digs.  Sami Hanes '16 set-up the Elmira attack with 61 assists in Elmira's two wins.  Defensively, Catherine Miller '14 made 25 digs, upping her career total to 1,120, putting her just 27 digs away from 10th place in Elmira College history for career digs.

Elmira College 3, Cazenovia College 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23)

The Soaring Eagles turned to a familiar player to guide them in the first match of the night as Rumsey made a game high 17 kills to pace the Purple and Gold to a 3-0 victory.  EC's primary setter, Hanes, did what she's been doing all year as she made assist after assist, totaling 35 on the night.  Defensively, Miller and Amanda Blinkinsop '16 combined to make 23 digs.

Elmira College 3, New Jersey City University 0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-12)

In Elmira's second match of the day, EC used 10 kills by Ashley Heiman '16 to lead the Soaring Eagles to their 15th win of the 2013 season. Also contributing on the offensive side today was Alicia Day '17, who, made nine kills to go along with two block assists.  Similar to the first match, Hanes guided the EC offense with 26 assists.

Elmira will look to pick up another two wins tomorrow as they wrap-up play at the Cazenovia Dig Pink Tournament.  EC will take on Keystone first at 11:00 a.m. before facing Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a 1:00 p.m. match.
