Ithaca, NY -- The Elmira College men's soccer (5-6, 2-2 E8) team needed only one goal on the afternoon as the Soaring Eagle defense and goalkeeper,
Jordan Dougherty '16, held Ithaca College (2-8, 1-1 E8) scoreless en route to a 1-0 road victory Saturday afternoon. Dougherty, making his first start of the season, stopped eight shots to preserve the shutout and snap EC's four-game losing streak.
Despite being outshot 13-6 in the first half, it was the Soaring Eagles who would capitalize on their lone attempt on net as talented newcomer,
Michael Bryant '17 scored his fourth goal of the season. His header in the 41st minute finished a cross delivered by
Ryan Bertsch '16 and gave EC the 1-0 lead. The Purple and Gold would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The second half was a very defensive oriented half as the Soaring Eagles tried to preserve their lead. Ithaca still outshot EC 8-5, but they only got two on goal in the second half and Dougherty made both saves to keep the Bombers off the scoreboard. The clock ticked down to zero giving EC the 1-0 victory, ending their four-game skid.Â
The Purple and Gold will hope to carry this momentum into their next game on Wednesday, October 16th when they host SUNY Canton in a non-conference matchup. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
